Suzhou Satake Led the Design of the Environmental Control System, Enabling the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (Catarc) to Officially Open Pre-Orders for Its Automotive Wind Tunnel
Apr. 05, 2019

The China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC) Automotive Wind Tunnel Center, whose core environmental control system was jointly designed and delivered by Suzhou Satake Thermal Control Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Suzhou Satake"), is now officially open for pre-orders to the entire industry.

As the first vehicle-level automotive wind tunnel in Southwest China, this project marks another significant achievement for Suzhou Satake in the field of vehicle environmental simulation technology, further consolidating its leading position in the domestic automotive thermal system testing equipment market, which holds over 80% market share.

Suzhou Satake Thermal Control Technology Co., Ltd. (formerly Shanghai Satake Thermal Control Technology Co., Ltd., now officially renamed Suzhou Satake) was established in 2017 and is headquartered in Changshu High-tech Industrial Development Zone. It specializes in the design, development, and manufacturing of vehicle environmental wind tunnels, high-performance environmental chambers, and comprehensive automotive thermal system testing laboratories.

This automotive wind tunnel, jointly built with CATARC and WBI GmbH of Germany, is the first vehicle-level wind tunnel testing facility in Southwest China capable of simulating extreme temperature, humidity, wind speed, and solar radiation conditions.

According to the technical head of Suzhou Satake, the core environmental control system of the wind tunnel was entirely developed and integrated by Suzhou Satake, enabling precise simulation of temperatures ranging from -40℃ to +60℃, control accuracy within ±1℃, and humidity ranging from 5% to 90%.

The wind tunnel laboratory is equipped with one main environmental wind tunnel, three immersion workshops, and four preparation rooms, capable of accommodating simultaneous testing preparation for multiple vehicles. All workshops are equipped with national standard fast and slow charging interfaces, fully compatible with the testing requirements of new energy vehicles.

In addition, the wind tunnel integrates a German MAHA four-wheel drive dual-motor chassis dynamometer (maximum speed 250km/h, maximum traction force 12500N), a German BFE solar simulation system (light intensity 500-1200w/㎡), and German IMC data acquisition equipment.

It can conduct traditional tests such as vehicle thermal insulation performance, thermal balance, air conditioning heating/cooling, defrosting and defogging, as well as specialized tests for new energy vehicles, such as low-temperature range and cold start. Suzhou Zuozhu's environmental control system seamlessly collaborates with the aforementioned high-end international testing equipment, providing OEMs with a one-stop wind tunnel testing capability covering extreme cold to high temperatures.

The General Manager of Suzhou Satake stated, "This collaboration with China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC) is a concentrated demonstration of Suzhou Satake's comprehensive strength in the field of automotive environmental wind tunnel technology. We not only provide equipment, but also offer full-process technical support from design and integration to debugging. In the future, Suzhou Satake will continue to deepen its expertise in automotive thermal control technology, helping the Chinese automotive industry move towards a higher-quality R&D and verification system."

Industry experts point out that with the opening of reservations for CATARC's automotive wind tunnels, OEMs in the Yangtze River Delta and Southwest regions will gain more convenient and accurate extreme environment simulation testing services. Suzhou Satake, as the core technical force behind the scenes, is gradually moving from a hidden champion in the domestic industry to the forefront, becoming an indispensable Chinese force in the global automotive thermal testing field.
